When people join hands in pursuit of a common endeavor, something so powerful appears on the horizon – the strength, passion and determination that makes it possible to move mountains. That spirit of community shines every day at the Florida College System Foundation. As the warmth of the sun provides small buds the chance to blossom into magnificent flowers, this organization plays a huge role in helping students achieve their full potential.

Since 1999, The Florida College System Foundation has been embracing the futures of college students throughout our state, providing student scholarships at Florida’s 28 colleges as the official direct support organization for the Florida College System.

The Polk State College Foundation is filled with gratitude that, since 2007, the Florida College System Foundation has donated $186,000 in collective gifts to the College. The scholarships they have provided – in Nursing and Allied Health – are aimed at relieving the nursing shortage and giving a chance to first generation students seeking to attain a higher degree.

This generous donation reflects the strong partnership that the Florida College System Foundation has with the Polk State College Foundation and its fellow State College Foundations throughout Florida.

On August 25, 2014, at a check presentation ceremony at the College’s District Board of Trustees meeting, the Polk State College Foundation gratefully honored the Florida College System Foundation for those collective donations, and the profound impact they make on Polk State College students.

Violeta Salud, a member of the Florida College System Foundation Board of Directors, as well as a former member of the Polk State College Foundation Board, was at the presentation representing the Florida College System Foundation. She expressed the devotion she has to education, and where that inspiration comes from.

“Education has always been my advocacy. My parents stressed the importance of education, and I’ve done so with my children as well. When my kids were growing up, I was very much involved at their schools and served on almost all of their school committees,” she said.

Bonnie Parker, Development Chair of the Polk State College Foundation Board of Directors, introduced Violeta and warmly expressed Polk State College’s gratitude to her and the Florida College System Foundation.

Salud expressed her gratefulness to Polk State College.

“I am very proud to serve on Florida College System Foundation and to represent Polk County,” said Salud. “It’s my pleasure to be here right at home, and I want to congratulate your Board and the students for Polk State College’s successes. Thank you very much!” said Salud.

The Florida College System Foundation supports the comprehensive mission of the Florida College System and its students to be the nation’s leading advocate for postsecondary educational opportunity, access and student success while respecting and protecting the autonomy and local support of Florida’s 28 colleges.
